Hovik Abrahamian Elected Speaker
of Armenian National Assembly

Yerevan, Armenian, September, 29, 2008.

Member of the Republican Party Hovik Abrahamian has been elected today speaker of the Armenian National Assembly.

About 110 members of parliament from 115 backed him today at a closed voting, the other candidate, member of the “Heritage” faction Larisa Alaverdian was backed by 5 members of parliament.

Before the voting Hovik Abrahamian first gave an oath as a newly elected member of parliament and afterwards presented the points of his program of organization of the work.

For the effective activity of the parliament Hovik Abrahamian underscored the necessity of mutual respect, tolerance, and atmosphere of partnership.
“In my idea the chairman of the parliament is first of all partner and not the leader,” Abrahamian said.

H. Abrahamian said that the issue of reputation of the National Assembly will be for him the issue of honour and dignity.

After being elected Hovik Abrahamian thanked for the trust and noted that he assumes the office of the head of the legislative body with the whole responsibility.
